Psychologist
My professional journey began with completing a degree in psychology, followed by two years of supervised practice in child psychology, occupational rehabilitation and general practice. I came into psychology as a second career because I have always been curious about human behaviour and cognition. Learning is lifelong and I love it! I strive to continue to engage with new technology, evidence based practices and frontier research to continually improve my area of practice.
I feel great compassion for people who struggle with change and adaptation to new circumstances and have spent my professional career working with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, stress, addiction, adjustment disorder(s), sleep dysfunction, emotional regulation difficulties, identity instability, communication challenges, complex and chronic medical concerns and trauma.
No matter what challenges people are faced with I believe that all people have the ability to create a life they would rather be living and I enjoy helping work out how to move towards that.
My therapeutic approach is to facilitate sessions collaboratively with you, the client to identify your strengths and bring about education and supports to address the weaknesses. In this process we aim to develop a deeper understanding of the underlying causes of distress, identify goals and create a plan of action that includes tools, techniques and strategies to manage both the physiological symptoms of distress and behavioural modification(s) to address the concerns.
I enjoy empowering people to take an active role in their healing process, promoting a sense of agency and self-efficacy in a safe and supportive environment where clients can explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours without fear of judgment or criticism.
Practice Manager
My professional journey into business administration and management first began with psychology studies at university. Life and personal experiences fostered a natural love of bookkeeping and organisation that resulted in a transition from the human services sector to managerial roles in customer service, hospitality and the construction industry. I found that I enjoyed working through data to find efficient and effective solutions for multitudes of problems and that these solutions could be applied to the human services sector with great results! I am passionate about the value of psychological support and endeavour to provide a supportive, warm and welcoming environment for all individuals. I recognise the importance of effective communication in the provision of customer service and will always go the extra mile to ensure you have the best experience at Zen Psychology.
